80/20 Power Grid™
Is it possible to get more of the right things done in just one week using this simple technique?
When it comes to your life or managing your business—is it really possible to get the most important things done
consistently—week after week—simply by identifying your number one “action” bottleneck?
Here is the thing…when it comes to balancing work versus your personal life –
There are basically 7 bottlenecks that can keep you from getting the most critically important things done.
And each of us tends to have one primary bottleneck which is the #1 thing holding us back.
However—the challenge is this: As someone with dozens of competing priorities, it is sometimes difficult to have enough perspective to identify what your #1 bottleneck is and how to fix it.
Now—when it comes to business profitability and growth solving this problem is what I do.
And, I have found that this same technique— tweaked and simplified a bit —works for busy, often overwhelmed professionals like me—Perhaps it can for you too.
If you have trouble staying challenged and staying focused –
If your biggest challenge is balancing the time spent on work versus your personal life –
If work continues to be like a treadmill that is hard to get off –
If you struggle running your business and bringing in enough income to support your family –
If you have become highly skilled and efficient at Getting Things Done – But still struggle with getting the most important things done
If you struggle with balancing client service with client development —
If you need to be more forward looking and schedule time to focus on all aspects of your business —
If you would like to grow a new business but working in your old business does not leave much room to explore—
If you struggle with coming up with actionable ideas for all the things that you want to do—
If your biggest struggle is financial—
If you struggle with organizing projects and tasks, with setting expectations and staying on the critical path—
If you struggle with getting your own work done while hiring, on-boarding, training people and helping your people operate independently—
If you lose sight of which projects and tasks should be done first and which should not be thought about at all—
If you spend more time sifting and sorting through emails and admin duties wishing you could just focus on what you do best—
If you are a jack of all trades—a YES I CAN person—a multitasking ninja and stretched a bit thin—
If your biggest challenge is: LACK OF TIME—
Then pay close attention—because there is a reason why.
And the reason why is because as a dedicated professional with a private life, when you have dozens of different priorities it is difficult to figure out what to focus on first…
Simply put: It is difficult to see the forest when you are standing between the trees.
You know it is possible to find your life’s purpose, to imbue your life with meaning, to get the most important things done, to do first things first – every day, systematically and with little or no stress.
The question is—How?
First, there is a reason why: You know the 80/20 rule—but you do not think it applies directly to you, right now, in whatever you are dealing with. Your general operating rule just might be that your days are one exception after another.
How could that be? The 80/20 principle is a power law that has been applied to matters ranging from the universe to subatomic particles. And, to every facet of human activity. Including business. Even your business.
Use your own experience and data to test and validate that for yourself. How many people do you know? How many are closest to you? How many customers do you have? How many account for 80% of the gross profit?
Ask yourself—of all the hundreds and thousands of the environmental and man-made stimuli continuously seeking your attention, which few of these really matter most—to you, right now.
Discovering and framing your time around these few critical things is the key to your life and happiness. And, to your financial success.
The challenge is this: When it comes to identifying what is holding you back, there is not one-size-fits-all answer…
But first, if you are like most people, you are probably wondering who I am and why should you pay attention to what I am about to show you.
I am not in the Forbes 400 but I have started companies, worked with growth companies and companies in trouble for over two decades.
It is not in the Fortune 1000 but I have led and operated my company, Aventure Works, since 2001.
In that time I have done strategic business planning, financial analysis above and below the line, and managed hundreds of systems and operational projects.
You can checkout my Linkedin profile for details or the Aventure Works website for a list of clients.
As for what I do—With access to the right data, I can show my business clients where their sweet spot is. I can show them the simplest, quickest way to more profitable growth.
And, with a rigorous application of 80/20 to most any project—the probability of successful payback goes up while reducing project cost, complexity and implementation time.
What I did not see was that, in my own business, I was attempting to do too much, in too many areas –And, getting too little return from any one area. And…
Though I was slow to face it… I realized that one day – hopefully a day still long off – would be my last.
As I struggled with my own life and business, I realized that the technology and planning tools I had been using were not 80/20 enough.
I realized that while I was adept at exploring vast client forests, I was wandering within my own set of trees.
So, I began to play with some ideas. I tested those ideas in and on my own business and in my client work.
What has evolved is what I call the 80/20 Power Grid™
I believe that the 80/20 Power Grid™ can be applied in a variety of ways. And, I would like to test that belief out with a much larger group of professionals.
Obviously, I can only work with so many clients one-on-one. And, since my typical project fees range from $5,000 to $25,000, I needed to come up with a low cost way of testing this out with a wider audience of professionals like you.
What I have done is taken this consultative process—and developed a simple, free online tool that asks a few questions. So now you can experience what it is like to figure out your #1 bottleneck and get yourself on a path to fixing it right here, right now.
Why free? I would like to prove that the tool works for a wide audience of professionals like you. And, to solicit ideas on how it could be improved and developed into a premium software tool.
So here is what you need to do now: If you are interested or even just curious, here is what I recommend…
